Dentists often provide emergency dental service. This isn’t just for toothaches. Emergency appointments are often made for a dental injury that means damage to teeth or to existing dental work. If you are away from home and / or you can’t get an appointment with your regular dentist, do a search online for a dentist in the city you are in. You’ll find a list of dentists that can help with dental emergencies.
Sometimes a dental injury is painless and other times nerves are exposed or other damage can cause pain and sensitivity in the teeth and gums. Pain relief might be necessary to help you until you can get to a dentist. Ibuprofen is often recommended for tooth aches and other problems caused by inflammation. Acetaminophen is also recommended, more often for general pain relief instead of for anti-inflammatory purposes. Numbing gels are also available over-the-counter at pharmacies and department stores but should never be used long-term.
Whether your dental injury means loose teeth, damaged teeth, or a missing tooth, the sooner it’s looked at, the better.
